Who am I?

My name is Adam Novy, and I’ve taught at twelve colleges, from state schools like New Mexico State University, art schools like The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, boutique liberal arts institutions like Scripps College and the New School, community colleges like Pasadena City College and Long Beach City College, as well as at the graduate level, at the Claremont Graduate School. I also taught elementary school and middle school students how to write poems in Chicago and Las Cruces, New Mexico, and I teach high school students every summer at the Scripps College Academy.

I went to art school at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, so I see writing as a creative and deeply rewarding activity that anyone can do. At Scripps College, where I’ve taught since 2008, I was named Faculty of the Year in 2017, and I’ve been Teacher of the Year in my department three times. I love teaching people how to write, especially when they think they’re bad at it or feel hopeless.
